Few people outside of tennis circles has ever heard of Naomi Osaka‘s boyfriend, rapper YBN Cordae. And most still haven’t heard his music.

In fact, Naomi is tired of people asking her what he does for a living.

After Naomi defeated Jennifer Brady 6-4, 6-3 to win the 2021 Australian Open and clinch her 4th grand slam title, she took to Instagram to plug Cordae’s music for tennis fans.

Naomi shared a video clip of herself wearing a Lakers jacket and holding her new trophy. A track can be heard playing over the video.

Cordae wrote in the comments, “That unreleased tho [sic].”

During a recent interview with GQ magazine, Naomi revealed she hears Cordae’s music before his fans.

She said she had to do a lot of begging before he would let her hear his music.

“I had to do a lot of pleases. ‘Please, sir, can I just please listen to your song?’ Eventually, he let me listen to his music, which I feel really grateful and honored about, to be honest. He’s a perfectionist, and I think that’s sort of what I am too. So maybe that’s why we get along.”

Cordae added, “She’s musically inclined, though. She has a good ear. I don’t really trust too many people’s ear like that. You get what I’m saying? She has a widespread ear. And that’s the way she thinks as well: worldwide.”

Naomi and Cordae, both 23, started dating in 2019, months after she won her first grand slam title, defeating Serena Williams in the 2018 US Open Championship.

In a recent interview, Naomi said Cordae had never heard of her or her tennis achievements when they first met.

Beyoncé honored Lyric Chanel, a young fan who passed away on Friday after battling brain cancer and anaplastic ependymoma for two years.

Lyric and her family documented her journey on her Instagram page, which garnered nearly 600,000 followers and celebrities’ attention, including Beyoncé.

“Just got news from Dr that Lyric is Dying and only have days to live….” a Wednesday post on the child’s Instagram page read. “These are the hardest words to have to hear.”

On Friday, it was announced that the 13-year-old had died earlier that morning.

“Lyric gained her angel wings this morning at the age of 13 years old,” the caption read. “Lyric bravely battled Anaplastic Ependymoma and endured more than a child ever should. She loved singing, listening to music, and dancing. I know she most definitely dancing with all the angels right now. Watch over your family baby girl! You are forever missed!💜💜💜”

The “Love on Top” singer sent Lyric flowers in September after the young girl posted old videos of her singing the hit song when she was younger.

After hearing of Lyric’s passing, the singer created a video montage on her website, which features a compilation of videos and pictures of Lyric smiling, singing, and dancing. The background music is of Beyoncé singing a mashup of her songs, “Brown Skin Girl,” “Halo,” and “Love on Top.”

“Lyric it’s you/ You’re the one I love/ And you’re the one I need,” Beyoncé sings. “You’re the only thing I see/ Come on Lyric it’s you/ You’re the one that gives your all/ You’re the one I can always call/ When I need you baby everything stops/ You put my love on top.”

Sometimes it doesn’t matter who you are when it comes to being racially discriminated against, including Amanda Gorman, the poet who won over America after giving a stellar performance at President Joe Biden’s inauguration.

On Friday, Gorman posted about her racially motivated encounter with a security guard who followed her home and told her she looked “suspicious.”

Gorman,22, went to Twitter to call out the security guard, saying the incident was emblematic of “the reality of black girls” in the US, in which “one day you’re called an icon” but the next day considered a threat.

In another tweet, she added, “In a sense, he was right. I AM A THREAT: a threat to injustice, to inequality, to ignorance. Anyone who speaks the truth and walks with hope is an obvious and fatal danger to the powers that be.”

In February, the Los Angeles native spoke out about another incident in Rochester, New York. “We live in a contradictory society that can celebrate a black girl poet & also pepper spray a 9 yr old.” The incident led to protests and the suspension of three officers.

The Guardian contacted Gorman for further comment on the recent incident, but she did not say the ethnic origin of the guard.

“Let this story sink in. And realize how – while I’m glad it ended safe for Amanda Gorman – this type of confrontation is an every day occurrence for millions of our fellow Americans,” Virginia legislator Mark Keam tweeted.

Georgia rapper Jackboy faces serious charges after being arrested because his driver couldn’t maintain his lane.

According to TMZ, Monroe County police pulled over the blue Lamborghini SUV the rapper was traveling in last month after noticing the vehicle’s driver could not stay in his lane.

After approaching the car, the cop smelled marijuana, so he called for backup to search the vehicle.

The search uncovered two unregistered firearms, a 9mm and a Glock, in the passenger’s side glove box where the rapper was sitting.

The “Pressure” rapper says he didn’t know the guns were in the car and a passenger riding in the backseat claimed they belonged to him. But because Jackboy is a convicted felon, he is prohibited from being within arm’s reach of a firearm.

Jackboy was arrested for possession of a firearm but was able to post a $2,500 bond the same day, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Authorities say they let the rapper and his crew off with a verbal warning over the small amount of marijuana found during the traffic stop.
