The coronavirus pandemic has canceled many events, including the Mardis Gras parades in New Orleans. The city’s resilient residents weren’t about to let the party go entirely and decided to make it a house party — literally. Thus, Yardi Gras was born.

CBS News reports that Yardi Gras started as a social media joke. Megan Boudreaux tweeted that she would turn her house into a float to compensate for the annual parade’s cancellation. Now, more than 3,000 homes have been turned into colorful “floats.”

The neighborhoods have gone all out with their decorating! One community pays homage to the Cafe Du Monde beignet, while one house pays tribute to The Queen of Bounce, Big Freedia. Freedia even stopped by the house to check it out. Some homeowners have hired out-of-work artists or rented props from float companies struggling during the pandemic as a means to give back to their community.

“I’m definitely overwhelmed at just how over the top the response has been,” Boudreaux said.

A new report has discovered that the Trump campaign donated $3.5 million to the “Stop the Steal” rally, which led to the deadly Capitol riot.

The report conducted by the Center for Responsive Politics found that the organizers of the January 6th “Stop the Steal” protests received more than $3.5 million from the Trump campaign and its associated fundraising committees.

The new findings stemmed from a review of recent Federal Election Commission filings by OpenSecrets, an arm of the Center for Responsive Politics.

OpenSecrets also discovered that at least three individuals listed on permit records for the “Stop the Steal” rally worked for the Trump campaign through the end of November 2020. It was also unveiled that the Trump campaign made payments to a company named Event Strategies, Inc., which was also named on the permit for the rally. The company was also found to employ two people involved in the January 6th rally.

The “Stop the Steal” rally progressed into the deadly Capitol riot that left five dead, including a Capitol police officer.
