The family of former Jacksonville Jaguars player Louis Nix III confirmed yesterday that he passed away.

According to Action News, the search for the former NFL star had been ongoing since last Wednesday. Authorities had closed off a portion of Broxton road to traffic as their crime scene unit explored the area near a pond along the road.

The dive team later retrieved a gray Hyundai sedan which matched the description police had given the media of Nix’s car.

Stephanie Wingfield, Nix’s mother, had spoken to Action News earlier in the day on Saturday before she knew her son had passed.

”I’m praying he’s OK, but this is out of the norm for him,” she told the news outlet. Hours later, the JSO confirmed that they had “located” the pro-athlete with a tweet.

Nix had been recovering from a shooting that occurred in December of 2020, not far from his home near the River City Market Place. Cellphone footage had captured the aftermath of the shooting where Nix said he was robbed while putting air in his tires.

Wingfield said her son had still been recovering from that incident, and she was worried about him after she had texted him on Tuesday without receiving a response.

“I want nobody to be in my shoes, I’m not saying something has happened to my son, prayerfully, I hope it has not, but just not knowing, you know, your kids is your kids,” Winfield said.

According to the New York Post, an aspiring actor from Texas has been charged with beating a cop with a crutch during the January 6 Capitol riot.

A criminal complaint obtained by the Daily Beast states Luke Coffee, 41, faces assault charges for beating a federal law enforcement officer with a dangerous weapon and a charge for disorderly conduct on the Capitol grounds.

Coffee was seen in video footage wearing a cowboy hat, camouflage jacket, and a blue bandana. He was also seen carrying a crutch, the legal document reported.

Video footage shows him holding the crutch over his head before charging at the crowd of DC and Capitol police officers the day of the riot, the FBI reported. He is also accused of bashing a cop on the chest and head with the object before passing the weapon around to other rioters who also used it to attack other officers.

Coffee’s social media pages identify him as a Donald Trump supporter and believe the conspiracy theories of QAnon.

The day before the riot, the actor said in a YouTube video that “All hell is going to break loose tomorrow.” Following the insurrection, he continued his rants.

“I was ready to die last night. We thought we were, we were totally gassed. And I literally thought I was getting gassed to death like I was in Nazi Germany, a Jew getting gassed to death. Okay,” according to Dallas news outlet Central Track.

According to his IMDB page, Coffee has made several TV appearances, including Murder Made Me Famous, Friday Night Lights, Las Vegas, and others.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James clapped back at Zlatan Ibrahimovic on Friday after the footballer criticized him for getting involved in social causes.

In an interview on Thursday, Ibrahimovic said that athletes like James should avoid getting involved in political matters and focus solely on sports.

“I would never shut up about things that are wrong,” James said to reporters following the Lakers’ win over the Portland Trail Blazers. “I preach about my people, and I preach about equality. Social injustice. Racism. Systematic voter suppression. Things that go on in our community.”

“Because I was a part of my community at one point and saw the things that was going on, and I know what’s going on still because I have a group of 300-plus kids at my school that’s going through the same thing, and they need a voice. And I’m their voice,” he added. “I’m their voice, and I use my platform to continue to shed light on everything that may be going on, not only in my community but around this country and around the world.

“So, there’s no way I would ever just stick to sports because I understand how this platform and how powerful my voice is. “

James also pointed out that Ibrahimovic himself once spoke up about experiencing racism over his last name in Sweden. He claimed he was treated differently than other players because he did not have a traditional Swedish last name like Andersson or Svensson. 

“It’s funny because I believe in 2018 he was the same guy who said when he was back in Sweden … because his last name wasn’t a certain last name, that he felt there was some racism going on when he was out on the pitch,” said James. 

“I speak from a very educated mind, so I’m kind of the wrong guy to actually go at because I do my homework.”
