In this clip, Reggie Wright Sr. talks about the impact that DJ Quick’s debut album, “Quick Is The Name,” had on Gangsta rap. He acknowledges that the rap veteran was the first emcee to ever identify his set on wax, but he also points out the fact that the Compton native wasn’t an active gangsta when he was rapping about gang activity. He states that there is a big difference between a real gang member and a studio gangsta such as DJ Quick and the late Eazy-E.
