BOSTON — The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority released new video that shows multiple people tumbling down as an escalator malfunctioned at the Back Bay MBTA Station back on September 26.
The video shows the escalator functioning properly before suddenly changing direction and accelerating backwards at a rapid rate of speed.
Dozens of people on the escalator can then be seen tumbling backwards before piling up at the bottom. Nine of those people suffered injuries and at least two families are suing both the transit authority and the company that maintains the station’s escalators.
The escalator involved in the incident at Back Bay Station remains closed as of Monday, according to MBTA officials.
