The suspect who killed Jacqueline Avant during a home invasion accidentally shot himself in the foot with an AR-15 rifle while burglarizing another home minutes later.
Avant, 81, was fatally shot around 2:20 a.m. Wednesday during a home invasion burglary in the affluent Truesdale Estates.

Jackie Avant, Clarence Avant’s wife of 54 years, was pronounced dead at a hospital. Clarence Avant, 90, was at home, but uninjured during the home invasion.
An armed security guard posted at the Avant home was shot and wounded during the home invasion. He did not return fire.
Surveillance videos captured the suspect driving away from the Avant residence after shooting Mrs. Avant.
Minutes later, LAPD’s Hollywood Division officers responded to a burglary call in the 6000 block of Graciosa Drive.
LAPD officers arrived to find Aariel Maynor, 29, hopping around in the backyard of the residence at about 3:30 a.m. He was suffering from a gunshot wound to the foot.
Beverly Hills police Chief Mark Stainbrook said Maynor accidentally shot himself in the foot with an AR-15 while burglarizing the home on Graciosa Drive. The AR-15 is believed to be the murder weapon.
Stainbrook said an “astute watch commander” at the LAPD “put two and two together,” and reached out to Beverly Hills PD about similarities between the two shootings.
Evidence collected at both crime scenes linked the two crimes.
Police said Maynor acted alone and there is no further threat to Truesdale Estate residents.
The suspect was taken to a hospital where he is being treated for the self-inflicted gunshot wound. He will be booked into jail once he is released from the hospital.
Maynor, of Los Angeles, is a gang banger with an extensive criminal history. He was out on parole at the time of the murder.
